"We're committed to providing support and assistance to victims and
families experiencing domestic violence"
PLEASE STOP
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
As a result of that commitment, "The Walk a Mile in My Shoes Campaign" was created in October 2007. It started with a "5K Walk" in Byrd Park to afford victims and/or their family members the opportunity to walk and talk about Domestic Violence while imagining the feelings of the small children living in these households.
The campaign host a yearly "5K Walk" on the first Saturday of October followed by a forum, which consists of panel discussions, skits and victims sharing their experiences. In 2014, the campaign will host the "3rd Annual Struttin' for DV Fashion Show" and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes Gala." The results of past events were well beyond our expectations; however, the success was due to a variety of donations and sponsorship from the community. The "Struttin' for DV Fashion Show'' was created to be a platform for victims of all ages to strut down the runway with a complete make-over from head to toe and increased self-esteem.
In years past, "The Walk a Mile in My Shoes" events have been attended by individuals such as the Governor of Virginia, Virginia's Director of Public Safety, Virginia's Attorney General, Richmond City Mayor, Delegates, Council Members, Richmond Commonwealth Attorney's Office representatives, Richmond Chief of Police and so many others.
